A sexy new M/M romance from New York Times Bestselling author Tessa Bailey

When CEO Renner Bastion walks into a room, everyone keeps their distance. Well, everyone but the sarcastic, tattooed, Boston-bred security guard whose presence has kept Renner in New Jersey longer than intended. As if the unwanted attraction isn't unsettling enough, Renner finds out his protector isn't as unavailable as originally thought.

Milo Bautista just came out to his wealthy, ultra-confident boss, a man he secretly respects and admires...in more ways than he'll admit. Worldly, experienced Renner would never look in his direction, let alone share some of that confidence he wears like a cloak, so Milo has set his sights on someone else to be his first.

Until Renner offers him private lessons in seduction...

I was debating reviewing this book. Full disclosure, I have not read the other three books in this book universe and understood this could be read as a standalone book. For the most part, I didn’t really feel like I was losing out on any part of the story by jumping into this one first, but I might not have the emotional attachment to some of the side characters in this story who have been the main characters in previous books.

Wound Tight is about wealthy entrepreneur, Renner Bastion, who is attracted to the security guard working in his factory, Milo Bautista. Renner is a bit of a workaholic and Milo and Renner have developed a bit of a back-and-forth rapport where their relationship is nothing but Milo always giving Renner a hard time about his work. Milo comes out one day to Renner, admitting that he’s had feelings for men for a while. Milo is undoubtably attracted to Renner, but both men don’t confess their feelings to one another. Instead, Renner becomes a mentor, of sorts, to Milo in order to help him get with another guy.

So, first and foremost, I suppose, this book is a romance novel. And Tessa Bailey does a great job and writing super steamy sex scenes. But, there’s also some parts that make the scenes very…unsexy. The writing at some points is awkward to read and really threw me out of the story. The characters, from their “voices” while reading the chapters to their “voices” during the sex scenes just felt very out of character at times.

I understand that this is the author’s first time writing a M/M novel, but the story isn’t bad. It’s just…I wanted more from these story and there were so many parts of the story that could have been expanded upon. For instance, I’m not entirely sure I even understand what Renner’s job was if he was only working with the factory for a few months and then going back to Manhattan to work…another job? Was he a consultant? The CEO? I’m not sure I fully grasped the story or even felt emotionally invested in Renner’s backstory to understand why he put up his emotional barriers. Also, it becomes obvious that Renner is very wealthy. And it is obvious that Milo is bothered by the fact that he is in a different economic class from Renner. I was expecting something about this to come up, but it never really did. Milo had his insecurities about it all, but then that part of the story kind of dissolved and was never really addressed before the story ended. To me, it just felt like the story just kind of propelled itself from one sex scene to the next without any story to make me love the characters.

I think the ending is fine. It’s a HEA and it draws in characters from the previous books in a big happy epilogue. I don’t feel like I love this book, but I don’t hate it either. If you want a quick read with hot sex scenes, this is the book to read. Just don’t expect too much backstory to go with the characters, if that’s the sort type of book you’re looking for.

Wound Tight Tessa Bailey 9781682813478 Books Reviews

I love this book. It seems like I've been waiting for it forever, and it was so highly anticipated, since it was Tessa's very first M/M! Well, let me tell you, that all the anticipation was worth it!

Renner Bastion is the owner of the factory where pretty much everyone works in Hook, NJ. He's used to people not liking the boss, and he doesn't really care. He lives in Manhattan, but he typically goes from place to place all the time, checking on all his investments. He's been in Hook since the machinery explosion (from Book 3, Duke!), to oversee the construction that was required to fix things up, and he's still there. Why? A certain sexy security guard might have something to do with it!

Milo Bautista works security for the factory, but he's also appointed himself Renner's personal security guard. They argue, and pick at each other, but mostly Milo watches him in order to get more comfortable in his own skin, now that he's realized that he's gay, and Renner is as well. They come to an agreement about helping each other with some issues they are each having, and it ends up getting hotter than they planned!

The push and pull between these two was intense, and at times, maddening! But, it was so realistic, and I really loved their banter. They gave each other grief every chance they got, and it was mostly just a long, drawn out foreplay, which was so sexy, and fun! Their interactions throughout the story ranged from funny, to angry, to sexy, to heartbreaking, to sweet. I loved every minute of it! Milo was really a caretaker by nature, and Renner had never had anyone really take care of him before. He didn't even realize he needed it until Milo came along, and they fit together so unexpectedly well.

They both had some issues, and they both took turns screwing things up, but ultimately, they were so much better together than they could ever be on their own. And that is why Tessa's books are the best. She makes you fall for her characters, and want to smack them, and want them to be happy and in love. And all the while, she makes you feel like you're right there with them! Also, it has to be said, that some of my favorite parts of this book were the appearance of the other characters from books 2 & 3. Vaughn and Duke (and River and Samantha) are some of my favorite characters Tessa has written, and I love to see them happy and their lives continuing on. They were so great in their roles in this book, and were great friends to both Milo and Renner.

I really loved this entire Made in Jersey series. All those blue collar men were sexy, dirty-talking wonders, and I'll never forget them! I can't wait for whatever Tessa has next for us! *Swoon*
